How Encryption Works

The Lockbox Analogy 🔒

Think of your data like a letter you want to keep private:

You create a secret password (like a combination for a lockbox)
Your phone uses that password to lock your data before sending it anywhere
Lantern stores your locked box — but we never have the combination
Only you can unlock it — because only you know the password

What this means:

Even if someone broke into our servers, they'd only find locked boxes
Even if the government asked us, we cannot unlock your data — we literally don't have the key
If you forget your password, your data is gone forever (this is a feature, not a bug!)
