How Encryption Works โ
The Lockbox Analogy ๐ โ
Think of your data like a letter you want to keep private:
- You create a secret password (like a combination for a lockbox)
- Your phone uses that password to lock your data before sending it anywhere
- Lantern stores your locked box โ but we never have the combination
- Only you can unlock it โ because only you know the password
What this means: โ
- Even if someone broke into our servers, they'd only find locked boxes
- Even if the government asked us, we cannot unlock your data โ we literally don't have the key
- If you forget your password, your data is gone forever (this is a feature, not a bug!)
